New Delhi, Mar 21: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday night and addressed students there. Delivering an exceptional speech in JNU, Shashi Tharoor spoke on ‘nationalism’, an issue which has gripped entire nation into a debate. Tharoor’s nearly 40-minute long speech was loaded with historical anecdotes and personal experiences and he repeatedly quoted personalities like Jawaharlal Nehru and Everlyn Beatrice Hall to drive home the idea of tolerance and diversity. He shed light on how minorities were treated with grace and honour in past in the country and why followers different religions find India a safest place on the earth.
Hailing the students of JNU, Shashi Tharoor lauded the pupils of the prestigious institute for triggering a debate on core issues like ‘nationalism’. “You may have come here for education but you are also educating the nation. What is happening here has given the whole nation an education in the vital issues of dissent and democracy, sedition and of course of ‘azaadi’ (freedom),” Tharoor said.
