Cloud Project Seeks to Simplify e-Governance Speed

Meghraj will accelerate delivery of services and optimise spending on ICT

The Government of India (GI) Cloud project (Mehgraj) is an ambitious cloud computing architecture for government department and agencies. The first phase of the project was launched on 4th February, 2014 and is being implemented by the National Informatics Center (NIC). Currently, 61 departments are using services of the National Cloud.

According to the Strategic Direction Paper, Meghraj will address issues such as standardisation, under-utilisation, and interoperability and amalgamation of e-services. The government is also expected to use the services of private cloud operators based on demand and security considerations. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) will be contracted for operating and managing the Meghraj system.
