37% rural youth sans Internet access: Study
Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday issued a notice to the State Director General of Police, calling for a report within two weeks in the case of arresting two activists – Tushar Nirmal Sarathy and Jaison C Cooper.
The media report has said that the Kerala Government was targeting human rights defenders and rights activists by labelling them as ‘Maoists sympathisers’.
In a release to the media, NHRC said: “Human rights defenders and advocates Tushar Nirmal Sarathy and Jaison C Cooper had been arrested under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in Kerala and were in jail since the January 30.
