Smart Villages: e-services to connect MP’s rural populace

To connect villages with digital world, Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), under Centre’s ‘Digital India’ project, is laying optical fibre cables in 335 gram panchayats in Indore division, said director BBNL (MP/CG), Ratan Ghosh at a press conference on Tuesday.

Ghosh, while talking to media, said national optical fibre network, also named as ‘BharatNet’, is a project to provide optical fibre connectivity to 2,50,000 gram panchayats across the country. “The project will become a lifeline of rural areas in future. After telecommunication services in villages, there is a need for data services as well to provide villagers benefits of e-services,” said Ghosh, adding that first phase of optical fibre laying processing has started in 3018 blocks and 1,03,614 gram panchayats nationwide.
