37% rural youth sans Internet access: Study
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Digital India project that seeks to empower citizens by deploying IT and associated tools received thumbs up from across the country. Towards this initiative, Chief Minister Anandi Patel launched Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s ‘Smart Learning’ project which would teach science and mathematics to 54,000 students of class 6 to 8. However, a look at municipal schools in the city reveals how little the children know about computers and digital literacy is a far cry from the lofty path the state has set out to create. There are a total of 457 civic schools across the city, all of which are computer-aided.
