Telecom service providers and net neutrality activists stuck to their stands at an open session hosted by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on differential pricing on Thursday.
“With this, SaveTheInternet.in team has enough ammunition to show TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) that Facebook did not inform users”, said Kiran Jonnalagadda, CEO of HasGeek, who ran the email campaign for SaveTheInternet.in on this new initiative. By end of campaign, Facebook claimed that they had sent over 11 million emails to TRAI in support of Free Basics.
“Neither the spirit nor the letter of a consultative process warrants such an interpretation, which, if accepted, has unsafe ramifications for policy-making in India”, Trai joint adviser K V Sebastian said in a letter dated January 18 to Ankhi Das, director of public policy at Facebook.
