Stating that Kerala stood first in providing a better and faster service to people, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the state was already ahead in e-governance. He said this while inaugurating the e-governance applications of Local Self Government Department here as part of the Digital week celebrations. “Kerala has moved ahead over other states in implementing e-governance. When 50 districts in the country were declared as e-districts, 14 districts in the state had found a place in the list already,” he added. “Though Kerala is having the highest literacy in the country, we are lagging behind in Information Technology. The earlier stand taken against computers has made the state fall back in this field. Karnataka is far ahead of us and there is a big gap,” he added. At the function, applications for Direct Benefit Transfer, online birth/death/marriage certificates, Sahaya School Management System, Property Tax digitalisation and Samanwaya were also launched.
