The gap between the technological haves and have-nots is widening not only between countries but also within the country and those who do not have access to internet risk being marginalised, MP Shashi Tharoor said.
“Poverty line is not the only line that the leaders have to think but also the fibre optic line that connects us. Those not connected would not have access to the brave new world,” Tharoor said while delivering the keynote address, `India in today’s networked world,’ at IIMBUE.
The two-time MP from Thiruvananthapuram said the stark reality of the internet is a digital divide. He added that internet penetration is about 92% in the US, compared to just 15% in India.
