37% rural youth sans Internet access: Study
All hell broke loose for Chaganti Rahul Reddy of Arundalpet in Andhra Pradesh after he casually posted a message on Facebook allegedly praising Cyclone Hudhud for devastating Visakhapatnam. The police turned up at his place on Friday and arrested him for the ‘offensive’ post. Reddy had unwittingly become a victim of the notoriously vague and whimsical, Information Technology Act, that governs internet activity in the country.
Speaking at a seminar on ‘Internet Freedom: Hot-Button Challenges’ in IIT-Gandhinagar, Nikhil Moro, scholar and teacher of internet law, said that if a blogger is not careful, he could find himself in legal trouble for whimsical reasons.
